Coasties magazine launches

“Independent publications are having a moment”: Coasties magazine founder

Coasties, a bi-monthly regional lifestyle magazine for Australia’s Central Coast, has launched.

Coasties magazine Founder and Editor Amy Nelmes Bissett announced the launch on LinkedIn.

Nelmes Bissett is a freelance writer, and has held editorships at Nine Honey Travel, ninemsn, and Grazia Magazine/Bauer Media.

In her LinkedIn post she said “Earlier this year, when my income dried up and so many titles I wrote for closed, I couldn’t come to terms with the fact that print media had died. How could it? Books have not perished. In 2019, print books pulled in $22.6 billion while e-books sat at $2.04 billion.

“And what I discovered was a modern publishing phenomenon. All over the world, independent publications are having a moment.

“Filled with carefully curated content, boasting high design values and a laser-sharp editorial attitude, they’ve no interest rivalling mainstream media. They’re in a class of their own. Just look at Kookie. A magazine that is hugely successful despite the belief its target audience – tween girls – don’t read magazines.

“Print isn’t dead. It’s revolutionising. And Coasties is part of the revolution. A smart, functional, and inspiring bi-monthly created for women on the Central Coast.”

Coasties magazine will be available in cafes, bars, restaurants, and small businesses across the Central Coast region from 1 September.
