Ben Groundwater joins Out & About with Kids team

Out & About with Kids magazine has appointed award-winning travel writer Ben Groundwater as its new ‘dad’ writer.

A father of two young boys, Ben Groundwater is also a columnist for the Traveller section in The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, the host of the popular Flight of Fancy travel podcast, and the author of three books.

Once a passionate solo traveller, he has recently approached travel with his young children with naive gusto, having now dragged them to four continents, including a year spent living in the Basque city of San Sebastian with his son Angus and partner Jess.

Groundwater makes his debut in the winter issue of the quarterly family travel magazine with a story about his first road trip as a family of four through Victoria’s High Country.

Out & About with Kids Publisher Elisa Elwin said she was thrilled to have Ben on board, and as a father of a baby and a toddler he was the perfect fit for the magazine’s partnership with the Baby to Toddler Show, which will be held in Sydney 8-10 October 2021 and in Brisbane from 18-20 March 2022.

“Ben is a lovely writer who tells stories with wit and charm,” she said. “Travelling with young children isn’t always easy, but he balances the good and the bad superbly. We are extremely excited he can give fathers a voice in a segment of the media industry that is often dominated by female writers.”

Out & About with Kids aims to inspire families to spend quality time together on holidays and create memories that will last a lifetime. The quarterly magazine, timed to coincide with school holidays, is distributed to both consumers and travel agents, with a temporarily reduced circulation during the pandemic of 8,000 printed copies.

The magazine is also distributed digitally, with 1.8 million digital magazines distributed via parenting website Stay at Home Mum and Bright Star Kids.

The magazine has a growing social media following, with more than 30,000 followers and nearly 20,000 newsletter subscribers.
