Solstice Media launches InQueensland digital regional news service

Solstice Media has launched a new Queensland-based digital news service, InQueensland, with a focus on local, independent journalism.

The InQueensland news site has been developed by the same publisher who set up the InDaily news operation in South Australia more than 10 years ago.

Solstice Media is a South Australian-owned company that publishes InDaily, SALIFE, CityMag and The Lead.

The company also produces a fortnightly digital news magazine in collaboration with The Office for the Ageing, produced for the 60-plus market called WeekendPlus; a weekly digital newsletter about South Australia’s food and wine scene The Forager; and, the religious newspaper, The Southern Cross.

Using the SA InDaily model, InQueensland will cover news, politics, business, arts and culture, with a free email alert sent to subscribers around midday each working day.

The service will deliver “balanced, thoughtful public interest journalism” with “no paywalls, no clickbait and no agendas”.

InQueensland’s inaugural publishing editor is Peter Atkinson, who has had a 30-year career in media and journalism and has an in-depth understanding of Queensland.

Announcing the launch, Solstice Media Managing Director Paul Hamra said there was a big opportunity for more journalism voices in the Queensland market – a lesson learned in South Australia with the success of InDaily.

“We undertook local research and found there was almost a desperation in Queensland for a new and different news service, digging deeper into political and business issues affecting Queenslanders,” he said.

“Like InDaily, InQueensland will be all about local quality independent journalism, adding a much-needed and free voice to the local market.

“We have assembled some of the best writers in Queensland to produce a lively and insightful publication every day about the state and its issues.”
