Volume 115 of Vacations & Travel, Australia’s longest-running travel magazine, has hit shelves, returning as a print magazine distributed in newsagencies, Qantas lounges and select hotel chains.
Acquired from US-based Morris Media Network in April 2020, this is the first print issue of Vacations & Travel published by Signature Media.
Signature Media atsaid that it is returning Vacations & Travel to its former glory as a leading travel title in the market. Taking it back to its roots – catering to those with an unquenchable love of adventure – and providing readers with inspirational content covering the whole spectrum of travel experiences around the globe.
This issue of Vacations & Travel is dedicated to new horizons, a nod to the fact it is now published by Signature Media, but also to the far-flung destinations covered.
Whether that’s the remote gorges of Karijini National Park on a pack-free hike through Western Australia, or a wildlife-spotting expedition across the African isle of Madagascar.
The team of editors and writers have sailed around the world with an Olympian, skied America’s top resorts, eaten their way through Griffith and Bendigo, and laced up their shoes to trek across Tasmania – what a way to see the world.
Natasha Dragun returns to the editor’s desk, having previously edited the title in 2010.
“It’s extremely exciting to be back working on this amazing title, and to see it thriving once again with the astoundingly talented team at Signature Media. To be relaunching a travel magazine at this time not only shows the foresight of the group’s publisher, Cathy Wagstaff, but also the dedication of writers, designers, production gurus…and everyone else who played a role in putting this issue together,” said Dragun.
Until now, Signature Media has focused on family and high-end travel markets. With the acquisition of Vacations & Travel, it will now reach all travel consumer sectors.
Cathy Wagstaff, CEO and Group Editor said “We are delighted to have Vacations & Travel in our portfolio of titles. The acquisition gives advertisers the opportunity to reach a much larger market, targeting different age groups and travel types, from cost-conscious travellers up to the discerning high-end luxe connoisseur and everyone in between.”
This issue also sees Natarsha Brown promoted to Assistant Editor of the title. Natarsha will also continue her role as editor of Signature Media’s annual Caravan & Camping with Kids magazine.
Signature Media has reduced the price of Vacations & Travel from $11.95 to $9.95.
The title will be distributed through all open and operating Qantas Club, Business, First and Chairman’s Lounges, in hotel rooms at all open and operating Meriton Suites apartments, as well as select Four Seasons, Sofitel, Hilton, Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, Movenpick, Hyatt and Sebel properties across Australia.
It is distributed by Ovato Retail to news agencies and direct-mailed to subscribers.
TMSN recently caught up with Signature Media’s Digital Editor Alison Godfrey to talk about how the travel publisher thrived through COVID-19 and its future strategy.
