Yaffa Media has added new categories to its 2019 Australian Magazine Awards, which will be of interest to niche magazine publishers.
The Australian Magazine Awards provide Australian magazine publishers with the opportunity to be rewarded and recognised for excellence. The 2019 awards are sponsored by emma, Nielsen, Ovato and Blue Star Web.
Yaffa Media said that since its launch in 2009, the event has “gone from strength to strength to become the respected, credible and independent awards program it is today”. In recent years the program has evolved with the focus shifting to championing magazines’ overall brands rather than just their printed offerings.
This year, Yaffa Media has introduced several new categories to recognise work across journalism, photography, research and regional magazines; and, the Impact Award, sponsored by emma, which aims to recognise any individual who has made a significant impact on their workplace across any area of the business.

Other categories of interest to niche publishers include: special interest/hobbyist magazine brand of the year, B2B magazine of the year, regional magazine brand of the year, custom magazine of the year, plus more.
Entries must have been published between 1 July 2018 and 30 June 2019. Award submissions must be received by 12pm, 4 October 2019.
The event takes place at 6:30pm on Wednesday, 20 November 2019, Upstairs at the Beresford, Sydney.
