Retromotive magazine website launches

Retromotive magazine goes global

Australian classic car magazine Retromotive is going global with a social media profile acquisition, and an imminent US launch.

Retromotive magazine will be distributed by Barnes and Noble in the US from April.

Retromotive magazine focuses on classic cars, people and their stories. Published by photographer Nathan Duff, the publication is known for its elegant design. The reader-only revenue magazine recently received recognition in 2020 as a finalist in the Mumbrella Publish 2020 Awards: Magazine Cover of the Year category.

Last month, the brand acquired the Instagram ‘Car The Berbant’, rebranding the profile to Retromotive. At the time of writing the Instagram account had 184,000 followers.

In October 2020, Duff spoke to the Targeted Media Services Network about the challenges of distributing a niche magazine title in a cost-effective way

“I had to come up with a platform or formula that was going to be cost-effective for me, because I was funding the whole thing through the magazine sales, subscription sales, and through my photography work.”

At the time, Duff was distributing the magazine via his website and in contextual locations, like automotive-themed cafes, repair shops, car restoration places, museums, and select Australian newsagents.
