Pip Media has been named as Small Publishing Company of the Year in the Mumbrella Publish 2020 Awards.

Permaculture publisher Pip Media publishes Pip magazine, website content, an e-newsletter and podcast, and has a strong social media following.
Mumbrella Content and Editorial Researcher Anna Macdonald said “The judges were all impressed with Pip Media’s passion, entrepreneurial spirit and innovation. It is a niche title that is making waves and achieving strong results.”
TM.SN recently spoke with Publisher Robyn Rosenfeldt about Pip’s performance during the first month of Australia’s lockdown: website traffic increased by 95 per cent, magazine sales increased by 300 per cent, and its overall subscription numbers increased by 150 per cent.
Other successful niche special interest titles include:
- B-certified travel magazine We Are Explorers for Consumer Publication of the Year, which the judges said brings values-based editorial to an audience they deeply understand. The judges congratulated the team on bringing something different to publishing.
- Man of Many for Website of the Year – Consumer/Custom, which the judges said demonstrated a careful balance of ad products with strong commercial results while still maintaining a good user experience.
- Australian Traveller Media’s Australian Traveller magazine for Special Edition of the Year, which the judges determined a strategically impressive reimagining in a difficult year for the travel industry while delivering a “powerful commercial outcome” and high-quality product.
On the B2B side, Elite Agent took out Business Publication of the Year and Editor of the Year – Business (Samantha McLean) and Event of the Year (for its Transform 2020 event). The judges found that the Elite Agent magazine demonstrated an impressive response to the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on their customer needs during a time of upheaval.
The Law Society of NSW Journal (LSJ) was awarded Association or Member Organisation Publication of the Year and Magazine Cover of the Year – Business. The judges found the Journal to be a “clear standout” in the category, being highly attuned to the needs of its diverse readership.
The Bunnings Magazine, produced by Medium Rare Content Agency, won the Custom Publication of the Year. The judges said that the magazine found innovative ways to find new audiences and engage with the Bunnings brand.
